The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, on Sunday, called for cancellation of results of March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections due to alleged massive irregularities.
In a press conference by Chris Ngige, who was surrounded by the coordinator of APC Campaign Council in Anambra, Chima Okafor, Ngige said rigging of the election was so massive that APC has no choice than to request for three things.
The three things, according to him, are: that INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, cancel the presidential election and National Assembly election and fix a fresh election because Anambra has been known for rigging but they want a peaceful election this time.
“That the collation officers, who are held captive in Nnewi South, should be released; two collation officer in Idemili South, who refused to collaborate be released immediately; that INEC should fix fresh election.”
In Akwa Ibom, the party has also called for cancellation of the Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections, calling for a fresh poll due to what it called obvious evidence of malpractices.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state, Austin Okojie, the party say, should be immediately redeployed, having shown serious signs of compromise and refusal to be an unbiased umpire as expected of him.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the APC State Chairman, Amadu Atai, said the election was marred by widespread violence, irregularities and forceful carting away of election materials, hence the decision to petition the INEC Chairman, Atahiru Jega.
“After a review of the field reports on the elections across the state, we have come to the conclusion that the elections should be cancelled because they were not conducted in line with the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of elections.
“For instance, at virtually every polling unit in Uyo Senatorial District, result sheets were not available. The result sheet is one of the sensitive materials that must be used for the conduct of elections, according to INEC guidelines.”
