GTCO alleges PDP has moved to buy result sheets from REC

With the March 28 Presidential election two days
away, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in
Rivers State, has reportedly shown high level of
desperation to secure victory by all means and at
whatever cost. This is as the Greater Together
Campaign Organisation, GTCO has alleged that
the PDP has concluded arrangements to purchase
result sheets for the Presidential and National
Assembly elections.

PDP, according to GTCO, is working in agreement
with INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner who is
a blood relation of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The PDP is accused of depositing large sum of
money into a private bank account for the
purpose of the buying-off INEC Form EC 1.

"To the best of our knowledge, INEC does not sell
its forms neither are we aware that the
Commission had at any time directed its RECs to
open supermarkets where it could sell election
materials. So, we are shocked that the REC in
Rivers State would ever be named in such alleged
dirty deal when INEC's National Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, is working to give Nigerians free,
fair and credible elections".

In a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt,
Rivers State capital, signed by Ibim Semenitari,
Director of Communications, GTCO, which is the
campaign outfit of the All Progressives Congress,
APC, governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr.
Dakuku Adol Peterside, condemned PDP for
representing everything undemocratic, evil and
reactionary.

"Not done with its regime of violence,
imprisonment and framing-up of APC members
and supporters to have undue advantage at the
polls, PDP has further stretched its evil empire to
buy Result Sheets. We believe this is part of its
pool of evil accessory to cheat on Rivers voters,
deny them the respect of their choices and plunge
the state into crisis. PDP is known to thrive in
violence and blood-letting.

"Since the last anchor in this race was entered,
PDP in fury and extension of its violent resume,
has mobilised its militias across Rivers State to
unleash mayhem on APC chieftains and shed the
blood of members. Last Monday, the party
despatched its militias stationed in Omoku, Ogba/
Egbema/Ndoni local government who attacked
Rivers State Commissioner for Power, Hon. Augustine Nwokocha, razed his house and that of
his Personal Assistant, Mr. Samson Obua, killed
his relation and damaged property worth millions
of Naira. Reports had it that the armed killers had
been quartered in a hotel owned by a leader of
PDP in Rivers State and had after the wicked
operation, returned to the same hotel located in
Omoku.

GTCO further revealed that its members now live
in fear as PDP now detains members of APC with
fictitious charges against them.

"APC members
now live in fear in Rivers State as PDP has,
unfortunately, turned the police into its armed
wing.

"Apart from keeping Hon. Charles Anyanwu,
Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Etche local
government in prison over allegations of illegal
possession of firearms, killing of APC members
everyday and threats to the life of the
governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Adol
Peterside, PDP has vowed to unleash mayhem on
Rivers people even after the elections. While we
call for calm on the side of APC members, we call
on PDP and the police to allow the people to
choose their leaders through the ballots.

"We also call on the INEC REC to be upright in her
dealings with political parties and shun undue
influence in her duties. We would remind her that
she was not posted to Rivers State to undermine
the will of the people but to promote democracy
through overseeing a transparent conduct of
polls.
